The professional jernalizmists at NBC News set out to produce a sensational hidden camera hit piece on JSD Supply and Polymer80. The goal, of course, was to send a chill down the spines of Mr. And Mrs. America over the looming threat that “ghost guns” present to law and order. They want the average uninformed citizen to associate legal home-built firearms with criminals and violence.

In the process, of putting together their ham-handed piece, NBC’s highly trained media professionals managed to violate a range of local, state and federal laws (allegedly), something we and others have pointed out (see here).

Yesterday, a group of five gun rights orgs asked the Pennsylvania House Speaker to open an investigation into Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s office. Some of the AG’s employees participated in the production of the NBC report and appear to have also violated a number of laws in the process.

The NBC report — with the inflammatory title, ‘Polymer80’s name has become synonymous with ‘ghost guns.’ Now it’s in the crosshairs.’ — attempts to smear Polymer80, insinuating that they’re somehow skirting the law, when their perfectly legal products comply with all applicable regulations. In response, Polymer80 has just issued the following press release regarding the ongoing NBC kerfuffle . . .

An NBC News article titled “Polymer80’s name has become synonymous with ‘ghost guns.’ Now it’s in the crosshairs.” is an attempt to distort facts, sensationalize crime statistics and turn an innovative company into a villain.

Anti-Second Amendment politicians, advocacy groups and members of the media use the label “ghost gun” to strike fear and trick the public. Those individuals and groups want the public to believe that privately made firearms are synonymous with crime, even though thousands, if not millions, of Americans have lawfully engaged in this right and freedom for centuries.

The truth is, there is a long, storied tradition of firearms use and innovation in America, including the freedom to participate in the build and customization of firearms. Americans have, for centuries, participated in this great tradition in compliance with federal, state, and local laws applicable to them.

Polymer80, Inc. has always operated — and will continue to operate — lawfully, in compliance with local, state and federal laws. Polymer80, Inc. will also continue to vigorously challenge encroachments and attacks on freedom, such as attempts to co-opt the term “ghost gun” for political purposes (whether it be through outright bans on privately made firearms or ill-conceived restrictions) or attack the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding Americans. Polymer80 stands ready to defend the constitutional rights of every American to engage their freedom.
