About Savage Arms
Back in 1891, Arthur William Savage established a patent for ‘a repeating rifle with a single column magazine lever-action,’ (Savage Arms, 2021). Since then, the Savage Arms brand has grown into one of the leading firearms names.
The Salvage Arms brand was founded by people who are part of the hunting world, from shooters to competitors. All Savage Arms guns were developed based on ‘hands-on experience’, the expertise and quality really shines through.
New Savage Impulse Pistol
The new Impulse by Savage Arms offers lightning speed and incredible accuracy. The new rifle feels natural to hold, featuring a ‘straight-pull action’, expect semi-automatic speeds, and the precision of a conventional bolt. Gun users can expect quicker follow-up shots and fast target reacquisition.
What are the features of the new Savage Impulse?
The new Impulse pistol is made from steel, it’s smoother and faster than its predecessors. The new rifle is designed with a high-quality barrel clamp (four-bolt) and a lock for easy disassembly. The Savage Impulse features modular subassemblies and a rotary bolt handle. The bolt handle provides both controlled loading, and pre-extraction. The new rifle also features barrel extension including a barrel lock nut that offers precise headspace control.
Three Models To Choose From
The new Impulse pistol comes in three different models, here are the gun specifics for each, according to the Savage Impulse site:
- The Hog Hunter: ‘6.5 Creedmoor, 30-06 SPFLD, 300 Win Mag, 308 Win’.
- The Big Game: ‘6.5 Creedmoor, 300 WSM, 30-06 SPFLD, 300 WIN MAG, 308 Win.’
- The Predator: ‘22-250 REM, 243 WIN, 6.5 Creedmoor, 308 WIN’.
The Development Challenge
Many shooters have preconceptions of straight pull guns, shooters have often viewed these to be, ‘too expensive, lacking in accuracy, and potentially unsafe,’ (Guns & Ammo 2021.) Savage Arms needed to challenge these preconceptions, they set about doing this by establishing 13 patents, to support and improve the Impulse. The Savage Arms brand is well known for innovation, and this high-performing firearm certainly does not disappoint.
The Savage Impulse Design Work
One of the most interesting elements of the new Savage Impulse is the bolt, the bolt is a full-diameter, providing smooth cycling for the receiver, and fast delivery. Gun users can remove the bolt head, the head itself features a Hexlock. The Hexlock is made up of six ball bearings (steel), that work as lugs and secure the battery and the bolt. The chamber pressure grows when a round is fired, when this happens the bearings achieve a stronger lockup. When the pressure decreases, the bearings ease up, and the bolt retracts.

If you’re in the market for a new rifle, the Savage Impulse is a fantastic choice. When you’re purchasing any new firearms you should assess your own needs, and check out a few online reviews. The new Savage Impulse is fast gaining an excellent reputation on the firearms market.
